Entering into this new year, new possibilities are opening up for mothers....

Reclaiming Birth

As mothers, our pregnancy, labour and birth of our children were powerful events in our lives, changing us forever. These births may not always have been what we hoped they would be, however, and we can be left with some lingering pain and sense of powerlessness.

We invite you to join us in reclaiming your birth. Using movement and creative arts in a safe and supportive environment, we will let go our disappointment, frustrations, fears and pain, creating more space to own our births and have them become a source of empowerment in our lives.

Bring an openness to share and clothes that are comfortable to move in. All are welcome.

A little about us:

Twyla is a dancer, social worker and new mother. Twyla knows the power of movement first hand, having transformed her own life and continued to keep her sanity through dance. Committed to breaking down the barriers of access to dance, she is the founder of the community outreach component and a facilitator of Dance Our Way Home, founder of the The Moving Well, co-founder of The Dance Well, and facilitator with The Move Collective. Twyla is busy developing dance opportunities for mothers and children and is excited about sharing them with others!

Jessica is a urban farmer, mom to be and card-carrying feminist. On her journey through pregnancy she has been listening to stories of other mothers and educating herself on birthing culture and something is clearly amiss. She would love to see pregnancy, birthing and parenthood talked about more in a safe and respectful way and looks forward to the conversations at our Reclaiming Birth event!

Moving together, dancing with our children

When children enter our lives, we enter into an intricate dance with this new little person filled with love & heartache, joy & pain, questions & communication, growth & challenges. How can we stay fluid in this dance, meeting each day as it comes, meeting both our needs as well as those of our children? How do we stay balanced, healthy and centred as we journey into unknown territory?

Join Twyla, mother, dancer and social worker, as we explore these questions together through movement and dance with our babies and young children. Gentle facilitation and connection with ourselves, our children and other parents will provide the space we each need, whether it’s to strengthen our bodies or calm our minds, de-stress or jump with joy, stretch or relax. So put on some comfy clothes (or stay in your pyjamas!) and drop-in with your baby for some tea, connection and movement.

Wednesdays 9:30-11:30

Drop-in starts January 23rd, 2013
The Centre for Growing Families, 80 Gladstone, Toronto

$10/adult
